Howard Kidorf, MEng—Managing Partner
Howard is a recognized expert in optical transmission and telecommunications networks and an experienced manager of research and development teams. Before becoming a partner in Pioneer Consulting, he was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff for Forward-Looking Technology Assessment at Tyco Telecommunications and Director of Services Engineering at Tyco Submarine Systems Ltd. He holds numerous U.S. and foreign patents in the field of fiber-optic communications and has authored many technical papers. Howard is a highly effective communicator with industry-leading technical skills which he leverages to add value for our clients.
Keith Schofield, CEng MIMechE FCMI—Managing Consultant and Director of Submarine Networks
Keith is a seasoned commercial development director and general manager of complex telecommunications infrastructure projects. He has more than 30 years experience of successfully implementing consultancy programs in the submarine fiber optics industry, having previously worked for Cable & Wireless and STC. Keith’s ability to find innovative solutions to complex problems, to manage relationships at all levels of the organization, and his sound business and commercial judgment help our clients to achieve strategic goals and long-term profitability.
Guy Arnos—VP, North America
Guy has more than 30 years experience in submarine and terrestrial networks, and has been responsible for the planning, engineering and implementation of transoceanic, transcontinental, metropolitan and specialized telecom systems. Prior to joining Pioneer, Guy has been involved with the design and implementation of the first transcontinental single mode fiber optic networks at MCI, the first private trans-Atlantic undersea fiber optic system – PTAT, the Time Telekom nationwide network in Malaysia, metropolitan networks in New York City and a festoon system along the coast of Angola. Since 2004 Guy has participated in the design and implementation of wireless and fiber optic networks for Oil & Gas applications in terrestrial and offshore fields including Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, Wyoming, Colorado, the Gulf of Mexico, Angola and the Northwest Shelf of Australia. Guy is responsible for developing and implementing Pioneer’s terrestrial and Oil & Gas business opportunities.
Julian Rawle, MBA—Practice Leader
Julian is well-known throughout the submarine fiber optic industry for his insightful market analysis and independent viewpoint. He has worked in emerging and developed international markets for more than 25 years with blue-chip companies such as Global Marine, NTT, Cable & Wireless, Chevron and BP. Since joining Pioneer in 2001, Julian has led projects for clients from all segments of the submarine fiber optic industry and continues to publish his research on submarine fiber optic markets around the world. Julian has led the company's development into a full-service consultancy for the submarine fiber optic industry. In addition to regular quotes in the press and articles for industry publications, he regularly chairs industry conferences.
Iain Ritson, CEng, CMgr—Senior Project Manager
A Chartered Engineer (IET), Iain brings to Pioneer more than 19 years’ experience of multi-disciplinary telecommunications projects in submarine and terrestrial environments with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget. Iain has worked for a number of network operators including: Cable & Wireless, Vodafone and FLAG Telecom, (which developed into Reliance Globalcom and now known as Global Cloud Xchange), as well as Systems integrators in leadership roles such as: project management, engineering, operations and vendor management capacities. Iain holds a BSc in Engineering Systems from Napier University, Edinburgh, an MSc from Loughborough University in Computer Integrated Manufacture and is a Chartered Manager from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). As Pioneer’s Senior Project Manager, Iain is responsible for advising clients in the development of new submarine cable systems.
Gavin Tully—Director of Submarine Solutions
Gavin brings to Pioneer Consulting a diverse set of skills from the undersea telecommunications industry. Previously employed at TE SubCom, Gavin’s career began in Mechanical Engineering of undersea cables before growing into System Engineering and then evolving into Global Sales for the offshore oil and gas, scientific and renewables markets. Having been responsible for “non-traditional” submarine telecoms, Gavin’s unique insights into the market allow for customized client solutions that range from broad commercialization concepts to important technical details. Gavin holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University.
Ryan has spent the last ten years working in the submarine cable industry, having previously worked for Fugro to develop international business for their cable survey services, grow a global marine advisory consultancy, and drive forward other business initiatives in the fiber optic and power cable sectors. With an expertise in business development and marketing, and a technical proficiency in planning submarine cable systems, as Pioneer's Director, Ryan will be responsible for market analysis projects, adding to Pioneer's existing global market study capability. Ryan's responsibilities will also include supporting Pioneer's comprehensive set of services globally. He holds a BSc in Engineering Geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Professional Certificate in Business Development from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business.
Carl Friedrich—VP International Business Development
Carl has 30 years of management experience in a wide variety of positions and organizations. In addition to work for the U.S. government, Carl has worked for KPMG, Sprint, Sprint International, Global One (international joint venture between France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, and Sprint), Global Crossing, and Cable & Wireless. Carl’s experience spans submarine cable capacity negotiations to marine surveys, to civil works for connecting cable landing stations. Although Carl is based in Washington D.C., his expertise resides with clients in Africa.
Linda Van Haren—Financial & Operations
Linda has an extensive background as an entrepreneur and managing her own technology firm until its sale in 2002. Linda now directs all financial aspects as well as handles the IT operations of Pioneer Consulting. Linda began her accounting career at New England Life Insurance Company and became a vital part of the organization’s partnership with IBM to computerize the accounting and billing functions. Linda holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Fisher College and continued her education at Northeastern University in computer programming.
Christine Schinella—Marketing Logistics Manager
With a background from the publishing industry, Christine joined Pioneer Consulting in 2000 as the company’s Art Director where she supervised the final production of market research reports as well as produced marketing collateral. In 2008, Christine’s role with the company evolved into the position of Marketing Logistics Manager where she continues to be responsible for all company-wide promotional material as well as coordinates company participation for industry events. Christine holds a B.S. Degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, Concentration Graphic Design, from Northeastern University.
